Discussion 1 to Ask the Patriarch 71
Re: Why are you called "Church"
by Scott Klajic
The truth is, the word translated "church" in the New Testament is the Greek word "ecclessia" which is simply a group of people who are bound together by some common belief, purpose or creed. Your organization meets this criteria quite nicely. Of course it's a church.
So, John you have my permission as a religious Christian to use the word church if you want. And as you know, I speak for all religious people everywhere. (For any of your not-so-regular readers--please perceive the sarcasm in that passage)
